Youthreach Learner Celebrates Boxing Success!

April saw Limerick’s latest Boxing hero came into his own when Myles Casey beat Joe Scullion from All Saints Boxing Club and became Ireland’s National Under 16 Boxing Champion at the National Stadium in Dublin!

Myles is currently studying for his Junior Cert as a student of the Limerick City AES Youthreach Programme at Limerick Youth Service, so between study and training he has a lot on his plate but no doubt, with his self-discipline and ability for hard work, he’ll be fine.

Myles is from Southill in Limerick and just happens to be well-known Featherweight boxer Willie Casey’s younger brother. He was declared the winner after the three two-minute rounds. The previous weekend Myles was victorious against Paddy Joyce of Brosna in the All Ireland Semi Final.

Myles has been boxing for only two years. He started in Southill and is now with Our Lady of Lourdes Boxing Club. Training with Shane Daly, Martin Donovan, Paul Mangan and Paul McGuigan he has been working particularly hard over the past number of months building up his fitness level in preparation for the fights.

He says, ‘I am delighted with my win and all I can say is that I am looking forward to continuing to train and to winning more fights. My next outing now will be in May so I’ll be working hard for the next few weeks.’
