Literacy Week a great success
11/05/2010 00:00:00

As part of a commitment to improving literacy, a special week of activities took place in LCAES Youthreach in O’ Connell Avenue from Monday March 8th.

Many events were organised to encourage learners to constantly strive to improve their reading and writing skills. These events included readings and talks by local personalities (including RTE’s Will Leahy), competitions and music workshops.

Learners also completed a special MAKE A BOOK project which was launched on Thursday, March 11th by former Mayor of Limerick Cllr John Gilligan. Cllr. Gilligan gave a rousing and inspiring speech to learners about the importance of education, urging them never to accept second best.

This project was a cross-curricular activity which included all subject areas, resulting in the production of a special 21st Birthday tribute book looking back on 21 years of Youthreach.
