30/05/2011 00:00:00

Members of staff from the Limerick City Adult Education Service recently participated in the Pieta House "Darkness Into Light" charity walk in Limerick.

Pieta House, The Centre for the Prevention of Self-Harm or Suicide was founded in 2006.  Since then, they have seen and helped over 3000 people and opened two Outreach Centres, plus two other Centres of Excellence in both Dublin and Limerick.

The walk/run began at 4.30am on Saturday 7th May, meaning an early start for all concerned.  Over 4,000 people participated in simultaneous events in Limerick, Dublin, Cork, Galway, Ennis and Killarney.  Men, women and children of all ages (some with their dogs in tow) took part in this symbolic and memorable event.  The walk started in darkness but finished in light, with dawn breaking as proceedings came to a close.

95% of Pieta’s income comes from fundraising events, meaning they rely heavily on the support and encouragement of volunteers and Friends of Pieta.  To learn more about the work of Pieta House, you can visit their website:
