17/05/2011 00:00:00

As part of the annual literacy drive Youthreach O’Connell Avenue has recently published a literary and art anthology titled ‘Different Voices’. This project is aimed at highlighting the possibilities for literacy amongst Youthreach learners. We are also using this opportunity to develop a local community literacy and enterprise project promoting literacy awareness, as well as allowing learners to experience an enterprise project and the challenges involved in developing and selling a product.

This anthology comprises of our students’ own work, as well as contributions from prominent personalities such as Maeve Binchy, Darren Shan, John Shinnors and others from the worlds of literature, art and entertainment.  The anthology is being sold at a number of Limerick locations.

On Friday the 20th of May learners will be displaying and selling their book at the canteen in O’Connell Avenue from 10.00 – 12.30.  The book costs €5 with all of the proceeds being donated to the Barnardos Family Support Centre in Southill.

We would recommend the book as an interesting read, a very useful literacy and teaching tool, as well as an opportunity to support a very worthy local charity.
