LCAES delighted to announce the city wide screening of ‘A Limerick Minute’
03/05/2011 00:00:00

A Limerick Minute is a series of short films produced by people of Limerick. Throughout 2010, documentary filmmaker Christina Gangos taught and mentored learners from Community Based Adult Education Centres across Limerick in the art of observational documentary. The outcome presents diverse approaches of exploring Limerick through a camera lens.

This collection of film-stories is a testament to the potential in each and everyone, to perceive the world through their own eyes and share their ways of seeing and insight through art. Collectively, these films give shape to a very different Limerick, proving that the beauty of the ordinary and the everyday outdoes the limitations of our preconceptions through the simplicity of a patiently observed reality.

These lyrical short films are now screening throughout Limerick. During the month of May, Omniplex Limerick will screen A Limerick Minute films before all evening performances in a screen to be confirmed. Belltable Art Centre presents a selection of the best in world cinema each Saturday at 3pm, before which A Limerick Minute will screen all season. If indeed you would like to see all five shorts together call in to Limerick City Gallery of Art off-site at City Hall, or Occupy Space on Thomas Street and take ten minutes to enjoy these poignant moments of Limerick city.

The project has been made possible through the Artist in the Community Scheme given through CREATE and the Arts Council. Supported by Limerick Community Education Network, City of Limerick VEC Adult Education Service, Cork Film Centre, Limerick City Gallery of Art, Daghdha Dance Company, Belltable Arts Centre, Occupy Space, Omniplex Cinemas, and IFCO. This project has been administrated by Áine Lyne (Limerick AES) and Susan Holland.
