LCAES celebrate Teacher of the Year Award for Youthreach O’Connnell Avenue
15/04/2011 00:00:00

All staff in the Limerick City Adult Education Service would like to offer huge congratulations to their colleague Gerard Cusack of Youthreach, O’Connell Avenue, Limerick who has been selected by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to represent NFTE and Foroige, as a 2011 Teacher of the Year Ireland winner.  Gerry will be honoured at NFTE’S annual celebration, the Dare to Dream Awards Dinner at the Marriot Marquis Hotel in New York City this April.

Gerry has been teaching the programme with Youthreach learners for the last three years and believes the reason why NFTE is so successful is that it works from the outset to help learners overcome the challenges they face.  The course is paramount to confidence building - “Learners are expected to take responsibility for their own learning from the inception of a business idea to completing a business plan, which culminates in a Dragon Den scenario which gives our learners a platform to express themselves through communication, innovation and presentation skills”.  In addition to this confidence building and sense of responsibility, NFTE  also teaches very practical business and money management skills which will stand to the learners on a daily basis throughout their adult lives.

Gerry would like to thank all his colleagues for their assistance with the running of the NFTE programme over the years.
