Communities celebrate International Women’s Day
14/04/2011 00:00:00

Creativity was the order of the day when community education groups came together to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th.

The event at the Belltable, which was launched by Mayor Maria Byrne, marked 100 years of International Women’s Day. Women’s groups from across the city showcased a range of talents including artwork, sean nós dancing, poetry and choral singing.   Women from St. Munchins Parish performed a drama piece illustrating the way community education offers new possibilities for learning and for life.   The video clip was the backdrop to the drama showing the preparation for the performance and more importantly, demonstrating that despite the actors' nerves, the women had great fun while doing it.  Drama Tutor Maeve McGrath was justifiably proud of these ‘amazing women’ who after only six weeks training gave a performance which was truly inspirational.
